Apprentice Chorus (Level 1)
This introductory course introduces the student to the fundamentals of vocal technique, basic musicianship, and ear training. Students will learn how to produce a well-balanced vocal sound that is both resonant and brilliant. Throughout the course, students will be able to read rhythms that include quarter, half, whole, and sixteenth notes, as well as to sight-sing melodies in the keys of C, F, and G major. Students will also have the opportunity to perform high-quality choral literature that not only expands their musical skill, but also makes connections between music, language arts, history, and mathematics. |

Concert Choir (Level 2)
(Prerequisite: Beginning Chorus or at least one year of music study) This continuing course in vocal music further builds upon the vocal technique, musicianship, and ear training skills gained in Beginning Chorus. Students will continue work with producing a pleasing vocal sound, with expanded range and technique. Students will expand their rhythmic and melodic vocabulary by perform rhythms that now include compound rhythm, dotted rhythms, ties. They will also sight-sing melodies in six major keys and their relative minor keys. Students will also perform more advanced choral literature (in 2 or 3 parts) that expand their musical skill and makes connections between language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science. |

Honors Chorus (Levels 3-4)
(Guild Level; Prerequisite: Intermediate Chorus or a least two years of music study.) This advanced course in vocal music concentrates on highly refined vocal technique, musicianship, and ear training skills gained in the two previous levels of chorus and/or private music study. Students will consistently demonstrate a well-balanced vocal sound and continue to work towards mastery of technique. Students will continue to expand their rhythmic and melodic vocabulary by performing rhythms that now include simple, compound, and mixed meters. They will also sight-sing melodies in all twelve major keys and their relative minor keys. Students will also perform more advanced choral literature (3 or more parts) that expand their musical skill and makes connections between language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science. |
